Silver Futures Trading:
Educational Resources For Trading Futures & Options

The following information provides basic contract specifications for silver futures contracts.  Please feel free to contact us via Phone, Live Chat, or Email for any further inquiries.

Silver has attracted man’s interest for thousands of years.  In ancient times, silver deposits were plentiful on or near the earth’s surface.  Relics of ancient civilizations, include jewelry, religious artifacts, and food vessels formed from the durable, malleable metal.  Today, silver is sought as a valuable practical industrial commodity, and as an appealing investment.  There are two contract denominations available for trade:

SYMBOL:

  • SI trades in units of 5,000 troy ounces.
The minimum price fluctuation is $0.005 (0.5¢) per troy ounce ($25.00 per contract).

  • YI (mini silver) trades in units of 1,000 troy ounces.
The minimum price fluctuation is $0.001 (0.1¢) per troy ounce ($1.00 per contract)

Maximum Daily Price Fluctuation is $0.25 per ounce.

Margin requirements are subject to change, and are required for open futures positions.

Both Silver futures contracts available for trading on the CME Globex trading platform, and the Chicago Board of Trade.  Open outcry is conducted from 5:20AM PT until 10:00AM PT.  Electronic trading is conducted from 3:00PM PT until 2:15PM PT, with only a 45 minute break each day.

Trading example:  If you were to purchase 1 contract of Silver at 1500.0 and the next day it moves to 1520.0, you have a profit of $1,000.  Inversely, if it were to move to 1480.0, you would have a loss of $1,000.  For less risk/volatility you can trade the mini contract which is 1/5 the size.
